That night, Joseph,

went to bed so quietly.

Like an old cat, he slowly settled

his pillows of wind and –

in curious dreams –

his soul began to disappear.

The Devil – in flesh and damnation –

soon poisoned the peace of his sleep –

sailing, so proud, on a golden cloud.

So, the Demon spoke to him.

"I'll depose your daughter inside

seven crystal coffins.

I'll close her in the smallest,

darkest and most remote

room of my castle.

Il'l throw the key, then,

between the brambles of the sea.

I'll steal your wife's breath,

strangled in the lethal embrace

of a rare and thorny tree;

or for a sliver of a glass onion,

that she'll eat in my garden

of bright flowers.

I'll drink the wine of your soil;

the holy eggs of your onyx chickens

will placate my excruciating

and eternal hunger.

But all this will be in vain

if you'll give me the fame

that vibrates, and vibrates, by your violin."

Now, be quiet.

Do you hear this tune?

It's Joseph.

Who enjoys his violin

into the arms of evil.

Quella notte, Joseph,

andò a letto tranquillo.

Come un vecchio gatto sistemò,

adagio, i suoi cuscini di vento;

dunque, in sogni curiosi,

strozzata nell'abbraccio letale

di un albero raro e spinoso;

oppure da una scheggia

d'una cipolla di vetro,

che mangerà nel mio giardino

dai fiori luminosi.

Berrò l'icore della tua terra;

Ora, silenzio.

Udite questa melodia?

È Joseph.

Che gode del suo violino

fra le braccia del male.
